Dreaming of a fresh start in Canada? You’re not alone. Every year, thousands of Filipinos take the leap—leaving behind the familiar in search of stability, opportunity, and a better quality of life in the Great White North.
But while Canada is welcoming to immigrants, the process can be confusing, especially if you’re just starting out.
That’s why we’ve created this 2025 starter guide—to help you understand your options, plan your steps, and take action with confidence.
Permanent Residency (PR) leads to citizenship
Public healthcare & education for you and your family
Safe, multicultural society
High demand for skilled workers
Strong Filipino communities across the country
📊 Did you know?
There are now over 1 million Filipinos in Canada, making us one of the largest immigrant groups there.
If you have a college degree, at least one year of skilled work experience, and decent English skills—this may be your best option.
Step-by-step:
Take your IELTS (General) test
Get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
Create a profile at Canada’s immigration website
Wait for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) if you meet the points cutoff (CRS)
⏱ Processing time: Around 6–12 months
Can’t reach the CRS cutoff in Express Entry? Provinces like Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan have their own nominee programs that welcome workers in specific fields.
Some PNPs require:
A job offer
Previous study or work experience in that province
A relative living there
💡 Tip: Provinces with fewer immigrants often have lower competition and faster approvals.
Study in Canada, work after graduation, and then apply for PR.
Why this works:
Easier to qualify for PR after Canadian education and work experience
You can bring your spouse and kids
Lots of affordable schools, especially in Atlantic Canada and the Prairies
💬 Many Pinoy families use this strategy to move together—one studies, the other works, and the children attend school for free.
